Enugu clears 5 commissioners-designate

03 July 2013, 12:09

Enugu - The Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday screened and confirmed five commissioners-designate sent to the House by Gov. Sullivan Chime.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the nominees are: Prof Chris Okoro, Dr George Ezeh, Dr Nnaemeka Chukwuone, Michael Eneh and Michael Nwachukwu.

Confirming the designates in Enugu, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Eugene Odo, advised the new commissioner-nominees to take their jobs seriously.

Odo said the house would soon adopt a policy whereby commissioners and heads of parastatal agencies would be briefing the House periodically on their activities to know when they were erring.

The speaker said that this would be in addition to the oversight function of the various committees of the legislature.

In a motion, the Leader of the House, Sunday Udeokoye, commended the nominees for proving their competence during the screening.

The member representing Igboetiti constituency, Okechukwu Nwoke, urged them to allow room for politics in their jobs despite their professional and academic backgrounds.
