Lagos - The National Chairman of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), Dr Fredrick Fasehun, on Wednesday alleged that some persons were conniving with some members of the party to hijack its machinery.
Fasehun also said that the members were trying to usurp the decision of the executive of the party.
A group in the UPN was quoted as saying that it now has an Acting Chairman.
Addresing newsmen in Lagos, Fasehun said that the claim was a ruse aimed at scuttling the chances of the party in the 2015 elections.
"I am the National Chairman of the UPN and have not been removed.
"The purported UPN National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja where an acting chairman was announced is misleading, and held in clear violation of due process and the rule of law guiding the UPN constitution.
“On September 18 and 19, certain persons in the UPN got themselves together in Abuja, and held a meeting in clear violation of due process, the rule of law and the UPN constitution.
"These people, who are obviously working for the opposition, misled a few innocent UPN national officers into approving several premeditated illegal decisions.
"The adversaries of UPN will be disgraced because the UPN will succeed in its divine mission of providing meaningful life for Nigerians,’’ Fasehun said.
He said that the party did not hold a NEC meeting in Abuja and the meeting it had scheduled for Abuja was postponed.
On the UPN primaries, Fasehun said that the party's guidelines would be out soon.
