Fears of violence in APC Rivers State exercise

06 February 2014, 09:40

Abuja - The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) said it had uncovered plans by the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leadership and members to violently disrupt the former’s ongoing registration exercise in Rivers State.

The opposition said registration officers and members of the APC in the units, wards and local government areas would be the victim of the suspected terror.

The party said leaders of members of PDP were instructed to ensure that all units of the registration centres were physically attacked with the assurance that the police in Rivers State was fully behind them.

APC called on all security agencies in Rivers State to take “serious note of this information and do the needful to avoid the recourse to self-help by members of the APC as nobody or group has absolute monopoly of violence.”

“We call on our Registration Officers (ROs) and the Supervisors to carry on with the exercise without any fear whatsoever while we call on the police to provide them with adequate security as they conduct the exercise,” the party stated.

There have been interparty tensions in recent months as some senior officials from the two parties defect to each party.

PDP has reportedly incurred more losses
