Former Ekiti Speaker rejects Fayose’s appointment

20 August 2015, 10:03

Ado Ekiti - A former factional Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Dele Olugbemi has turned down his appointment as a member of the House of Assembly Service Commission (HASC), reports Punch.

Gov. Ayodele Fayose had nominated Olugbemi as a member of the five- man commission.

Olugbemi shunned the process of screening and confirmation of HASC nominees, which took place on Wednesday.

Olugbemi presided over a seven-member House that purportedly impeached the then Speaker of the Assembly, Adewale Omirin during Fayose’s running battle for survival with the former Assembly members.

On why he rejected the appointment, Olugbemi said his action was based on principle.

He said he was unhappy with the manner his appointment as a member of the commission was announced in the media without Fayose first consulting him.
