Fresh crisis threatens Edo APC over zoning

10 September 2015, 16:11

Benin City - The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is in a dilemma.

The dilemma is over which senatorial district should produce the next governor of the state, reports Leadership

The incumbent Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, who hails from Edo North senatorial district will serve out his second tenure in November, 2016.

Expectedly, the battle to succeed him will be between Edo South and Edo Central senatorial districts.

Oshiomhole has not only shown an interest in the zoning arrangement, he has made a commitment to the people of Edo South Senatorial District.

Oshiomhole’s decision is already causing ripples in the party and is being kicked against by political stakeholders from Edo central senatorial district.

Leaders in the district argued that should the party renege on its promise to conduct an open primary and settle for a consensus candidate, it would amount to crass injustice to the people of the zone.

To drive home their point, the leaders said Edo Central  remains the only district which has not had the full opportunity to produce the governor aside the 18 months of Governor Oserheimen Osunbor which was short-lived.
