Abuja - Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting the Ekiti State governorship election.
He said the poll was held in a "transparent" manner.
In a congratulatory message to Ayo Fayose, Dickson also commended the people of the state for the mature and peaceful manner they expressed themselves at the polls.
He described the peaceful conduct of the elections and the victory of Fayose in the governorship polls as a victory for democracy and the people of the State.
The governor said the mandate given to Fayose by the people of Ekiti State as well deserving.
The Bayelsa State Governor also commended the incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, for his show of "sportsmanship" by accepting the outcome of the election and taking the step to congratulate Ayo Fayose.
He described him as a true democrat and noted that his conduct was rare in the nation’s democracy and called on the political class to emulate him.
"He will remain a reference point for the political class in Nigeria, who hardly accept defeat. He has simply proved that he is different from the rest and posterity will remember him and even give him the opportunity to serve our nation, even at a higher capacity,” Dickson said.
