Ado-Ekiti - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says
candidates of 18 political parties have been cleared to contest the June
21 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in the state, Halilu Pai,
announced this on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti.
The list includes the incumbent governor. Dr Kayode Fayemi of the APC, a
former governor, Ayo Fayose of the PDP, Opeyemi Bamidele of the Labour
Party, Kole Ajayi, of the Accord Party and Opeyemi Akinyemi of the Action
Citizens Popular Party (CPP) is fielding Ayodele Olayinka while Social
Democratic Party (SDP) has Adekola Ayo as its candidate.
Other parties are KOWA Party which is fielding Ade Joseph, National
Conscience Party, (NCP) with Ilesanmi Emmanuel, Mega Progressive Peoples Party,
(MPPP) with Akinbola Joseph, and United Democratic Party, (UDP) with Adeniyi
Others are Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, (ACPN) which has Peter
Bamigbade and African Democratic Congress (ADC) with Okoko Bola.
Also on the list are African People’s Alliance, (APA) with Adebayo Ogunlola,
as its candidate and Progressive Peoples Alliance, (PPA) which has Animasanu
Goke, as its candidate, Alliance for Democracy, with Osekita Victor, People’s
Democratic Change, with Banjo Gboyega and Peoples Party of Nigeria, which has Gbenga
Adekunle as candidate.
Four women, who will contest the position of deputy governor, were also
cleared to contest.
They are Prof Modupe Adelabu, who is the running mate to the incumbent
governor, Bolanle Bruce who stands on the platform of Labour Party, Taiwo Phebe
of Action Alliance and Adegoro Adolu of the National Conscience Party.
Pai said that the parties have until May 18, 2014 to substitute names of any
of their candidates.
