01 July 2015, 08:39

Owerri - The Imo Assembly has adopted a motion urging the state governor to provide facilities for the take-off of the proposed College of Education in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area.

Moving the motion during plenary on Tuesday in Owerri, Dr Uche Ejiogu (APC- Ihite Uboma), noted that the state needed a new College of Education with the upgrade of Alvan Ikoku College of Education to a University of Education.

"The take-off of the college will provide the much needed middle level manpower for the education sector in the state."

The lawmaker also said that a new College of Education would ensure the admission of more students into tertiary institutions yearly.

Supporting the motion, Lawson Duruji (APC- Ehime Mbano), stated that the successful takeoff of the programme would enhance the revenue of the state and create employment.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Iheanacho Ihim (Okigwe- APC), urged the state governor to facilitate the completion of infrastructure at the proposed College of Education.
