Jonathan, Israeli counterpart pledge fight against terrorism

28 October 2013, 21:50

Lagos - President Goodluck Jonathan, who is in Israel on an official visit as well as a pilgrimage , stated that his nation would continue to make a concerted effort to bring down terrorism with other countries who shared the same philosophy, Daily Times reports.

Jonathan, who left for Israel last Wednesday was meeting with President Shimon Peres.

Nigeria has been rocked by an attack on Thursday in Yobe by the terrorist group Boko Haram, insurgents who have plagued the country with violence over the past few months.

It has been reported that 35 soldiers were killed by Boko Haram after they surged into the city heavily-armed.

President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency across the northeast in May and vowed to permanently end the uprising.

The mandate expires next month and last week's attacks might sway Jonathan to extend the measures as a safety measure for his people.
