Jonathan’s aide, PDP clash over Mu’azu’s replacement

02 September 2015, 13:13

Abuja - Fresh crisis is brewing within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the position of the party’s national chairman, reports The Nation.

The party on Tuesday declared that the position is not vacant.

The party’s stance almost caused a mild drama at the party’s secretariat on Tuesday when a former political adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak stormed the secretariat to register his intention to vie for the chairmanship position.

Speaking with journalists shortly after meeting with some of the party leaders, Gulak declared that the continuous stay in office of acting chairman,  Uche Secondus, is illegal because the three months stipulated by the party’s constitution had elapsed.

But the leadership of the party could hardly wait for Gulak to leave the party secretariat before declaring that the position is not vacant.

The National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo and the party’s National Legal Adviser, Victor Kwom during a joint press conference said the party constitution did not stipulate time limit for an acting chairman.
