Jonathan’s ex aide, former ministers jostle for PDP chairmanship

21 August 2015, 18:59

Abuja - A former Special Adviser on Political Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Prof. Ahmed Alkali and five others have commenced intense lobbying to be the next Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reports NewsDay.

Others are former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bala Mohammed, former Minister of State for Power Mohammed Wakil and the party's Deputy National Publicity Secretary Jalo Abdullahi.

Although the PDP Governors’ Forum is said to be pushing for any of their former colleagues to take over the seat, chieftains of the party from the North-East zone are insisting that the slot be retained in the zone.

The ex-governors being tipped by the PDP governors are former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido and ex-Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema, who are both from the North- west.

The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) is expected to release the guidelines for the election soon.

The post became vacant following the sudden resignation of the former Chairman of the party, Adamu Mu’azu.
