Kaduna APC to hold re-run electons in 8 LGAs

20 May 2014, 16:17

Jos - Timothy Chindo, the PDP Chairman in Kauru Local Government of Kaduna State, has emerged the party’s candidate for the June 21 bye-election into the Kaduna House of Assembly.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Kauru State Constituency seat became vacant after the death, in India last month, of their representative, Mr Shuaibu Tukura.

Joseph Gumbari, PDP zonal chairman, Kaduna South Senatorial District, told NAN on Tuesday in Jos that Chindo was endorsed after other aspirants stepped down for him.

Gumbari said it was "not very difficult" to secure the consensus of other aspirants and stakeholders to allow the chairman to contest, and expressed optimism that the PDP would clinch the seat.

"Kauru has always voted PDP since 1999 and has no reason to do something different this time.

"The PDP government and representatives have also kept their part of the campaign by constructing major roads such as from Pambeguwa to Kauru, and from Kauru to various parts of Kumana chiefdom.

"There has also been many bridges; the Chawai community will always celebrate the bridge over Kiffin river, while Geshere community also had a bridge over river Geshere which hitherto cut them away from the rest of the world during raining seasons,'' he said.

According to him, there has also been massive development by the state and local governments in other sectors like education, agriculture and health.

He promised that the party, which controls the federal, state and local governments, would continue to ensure better life for rural dwellers in the area.

Gumbari challenged the candidates to ensure peaceful campaign and election devoid of violence.

APC has since endorsed Dr Isaac Zankai as its candidate for the state assembly seat.
