Katsina - The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), on Monday, announced August 2 as the date for the conduct of local government election in the state.
The SIEC Chairman, Abubakar Lawal, made the announcement at a meeting on the preparations for the elections in Katsina.
Lawal said that nomination forms for the chairmanship position would be sold for N250 000, while that of the Vice Chairmanship would be sold for N150 000 and N100 000, for the councillorship position.
He explained that the sales of the nomination forms would commence on July 7, and end on July 28.
According to him, electioneering campaign for the elections will start on June 2 to August 1, while political party primaries will begin from June 5 to June 26.
He said that the display of voter's register at ward level would commence on June 11, and end on June 18.
Lawal said that submission of names of candidates by all participating political parties, would start on June 6 and end on June 28.
He explained that the commission had banned the display of posters on public buildings such as schools, offices, roundabouts, and sign posts among others.
Lawal urged all stakeholders’ particularly, party supporters to cooperate with the commission by conducting themselves in an orderly manner during the election.
He said the commission had been empowered to stop or postpone the elections in any polling unit, ward or local government if the supporters of a party use force, violence or any act capable of breaching public peace.
