Kwara LG polls: Emir tasks electoral body for transparnecy

10 October 2013, 19:29

Ilorin -The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji  Ibrahim Sulu- Gambari, on Thursday appealed to the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) to conduct a free, fair and transparent local government election in the state.

The Emir said this in Ilorin, when he received the Chairman of KWASIEC, Dr Uthman Ajidagba, who led six other commissioners on a courtesy call.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commission will conduct the local government election in the state on Oct. 26.

The traditional ruler said that the conduct of a free, fair and credible election would help to  sustain the peace and harmony prevailing in the state.

Sulu-Gambari urged the commission to create a level playing ground for all the candidates in the election as a way of ensuring fairness and transparency.

The Emir called on the electorate to support KWSIEC in the task ahead, adding that the job could not be done  by the commission alone.

The monarch assured the commission of his support and prayed for its successful conduct of the election.

Earlier, the KWASIEC chairman had expressed appreciation to the emir for his continuous support to the commission.
