Lagos tribunal dismisses APC petition

12 August 2015, 15:17Lekan Oladeinde

Lagos -   The Lagos State National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal on Tuesday dismissed the petition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency 1 in the March 28 election.

The APC candidate for the election, Timothy Olamuyiwa Olabintan, had approach the tribunal to nullify the declaration of Mutiu Shadimu of the PDP as the winner of the election.

Delivering judgement, the tribunal led by Justice E. I. Ikponwonba dismissed Olabintan’s petition for lack of merit.

Justice kponwonba ruled that the petitioner failed to serve the notice of the petition on Shadimu on time, contrary to the provision of the Constitution.

Reacting to the development, APC Chairman for Oshodi-Isolo, Olamide Kasali, rejected the ruling of the tribunal.

He noted that the tribunal sacrificed justice on the altar of technicality.

He stated that the petitioners could not be blamed for late service of the notice on the respondents because it was the duty of the tribunal to do so.

He vowed that the party would challenge the decision of the tribunal at the Court of Appeal.
