Abuja - The FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, on Sunday in Abuja commended INEC on the peaceful conduct of elections in the six Area Councils in the FCT.
Mohammed who gave the commendation while speaking with reporters in Abuja, described the election, held on March 16, as credible, free and fair.
He hailed the orderliness of the voters, security agents, polling officials and the entire residents of the FCT.
``I want to thank the residents for heeding my call for peaceful election and taking democracy a notch higher.
``The peaceful atmosphere that pervaded the FCT during the election was a product of hard work, commitment and patriotism by all stakeholders as well as the level playing field provided," he said.
He also thanked traditional rulers, religious leaders and civil society organisations in the FCT for their support during the excise.
He advised the FCT electorate to keep on with the same high spirit in future elections.
Mohammed, however, attributed the low turnout of voters during the excise to fear of insecurity that had existed in some parts of the country recently, adding many security agents were deplored during the election.
The minister said the impressive performance of the PDP in the election could be attributed to performance, rigorous campaign and mobilisation.
