NNPP lauds INEC for deregistering parties

15 January 2013, 09:10 -

Abuja - The National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Mr Gilbert Agbo, said the deregistration of some political parties by INEC was a welcome development.

Agbo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday that the deregistration was necessary as it would not give room for mediocrity.

``Most of the parties deregistered are not doing what is expected of them. Every opportunity we have, we send warning to them to turn a new leave but they never yielded.

``We are not as a party celebrating their exit from the field but things must be done properly according to the constitution,’’ he said.

``We have had situations where political parties are run by individuals who are family members and some are not morally qualified to do so,’’ Agbo said.
