Benin - Chika Ikpeamonwu, Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo on Friday said the command trained 2 500 officers for the April 20 local government polls in the state.
Ikpeamonwu said this in Benin while fielding questions from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said: ``Monitoring elections is not new to us; all the same, my officers are undergoing seminars and workshops on the conduct of the exercise.
``Later the officers will be deployed to the 18 local government areas to train and enlighten other personnel on steps to be taken during and after the exercise.''
The commandant, however, said that the command would work in conjunction with other security agencies during the polls.
``It is part of the NSCDC's mandate to coordinate and ensure successful conduct of the election,'' he said.
NAN reports that Edo council elections are scheduled for April 20.
