Nasarawa - The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission has returned Emmanuel Bakyu, a PDP candidate, as Chairman-elect of Akwanga Local Government Council.
The declaration was made on Sunday by Mohammed Yusuf, the council’s Returning Officer at the College of Education Akwanga collation centre.
Yusuf said that Bakyu won with 12 207 votes while Ahmed Kwato of APC scored 11 071.
Out of the 11 electoral wards in Akwanga, only the results of seven wards were considered valid.
The results in the other four wards were voided due to alleged irregularities.
Those considered valid were for Akwanga West, Nunku, Moro/Angida, Ancho, Gwanje, Ancho/Ninga and Agyaga while those for Akwanga East, Ningo/Buhar, Andaha and Gudi were rejected.
The council elections were held across the state on Saturday.
