Lagos - The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has denied allegations by the Rivers State Government it was plotting to impeach Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
PDP emphasizes, that at no time had it conceived, nurtured and expressed such intention to impeach the Governor, neither did it intend to attack him.
According to the party, it was presently concerned with repositioning the party for the coming elections to enable it win in the state.
"Understandably, the State Government and the Governor must be confused and seems to have set out to also confuse and divert the people’s attention from core issues of corruption and financial recklessness characterizing the Amaechi administration including the current crisis rocking the State Judiciary, which he (the governor) has stubbornly trample on the relevant constitutional provisions by disrespecting the directive of the National Judicial Commission (NJC) on the appointment of a Chief Judge for the State," PDP stated.
The Party however says even though the impeachment of the Governor was presently not on its agenda, it was constitutionally right and proper to impeach any erring chief executive of a State, particularly those involved in glaring cases of corruption.
"The PDP therefore calls on Nigerians, especially Rivers people not to take the Governor’s claim seriously as there is no such plan by the Party."
