Officials in trouble over Anambra primary poll

28 August 2013, 07:42August Osayande

Abuja - Five senior ruling People's Democratic Party members face disciplinary action for allegedly conducting a primary election in Anambra State against party directives.

Tony Okeke, PDP Acting National Publicity Secretary, said Andy Ubah, Chief Chris Ubah, Ejike Oguebego, Chief Benji Udeozor and Tonia Nwankwu will on Wednesday appear before the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party for a preliminary hearing at the National Secretariat Abuja for their alleged involvement in the event.

He added that the party leadership is calling on the Inspector General of Police to commence investigations into the illegal procurement of sensitive party materials for the event.

“The leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hereby condemns in strongest possible terms the organization of a parallel primary election to elect a candidate for the November 16 2013 governorship election in Anambra State other than the one conducted by the party on August 24 2013,” Okeke stated.

He said the only primary election the party recognised was the one the electoral panel under the leadership of Governor Ibrahim Shema, who was appointed by the party, conducted.

"The organisation of another primary election other than the one conducted by the appointed panel is a clear breach of the party’s constitution and is totally unacceptable and cannot be condoned."
