Ondo Speaker on the run

28 August 2015, 14:16

Akure - The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele on Wednesday escaped arrest over allegations of administering the oath of office on two members of the House without Certificates of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), reports Sun.

Akindele evaded arrest from her official quarters at Alagbaka area of Akure, the state capital.

The Clerk of the House, Bode Adeyelu and the two lawmakers, Abayomi Akinruntan and Malachi Coker were, however, not lucky as police detectives from the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja arrested them.

The lawmakers represent Ilaje 1 and 11 State Constituencies of the state.

The two lawmakers were allegedly sworn in illegally on June 1 but have refused to heed invitations for interrogation by the Force Headquarters.

The police were acting on a petition addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) by Ondo State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) through its lawyer, Charles Titiloye, that the Speaker and the Clerk allegedly conspired to fraudulently swear in Akinruntan and Coker, without the Certificates of Return by INEC.
