Abuja - A Coalition of Civil Society Organisations, on Thursday advised the military to ensure orderliness during the forthcoming governorship election in Osun.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduled to hold governorship election in Osun in August 9.
The Executive Director of the Coalition, Bassey Ekamon gave the advice at a news conference on preparation for Osun governorship election in Abuja.
Ekamon said that role of military in promoting peace and harmony in the country at this trying time could not be overemphasized.
He reminded the military of its primary responsibility of protecting the territorial integrity of the country against external aggression.
Ekamon, nevertheless, commended the Nigerian Army for its patriotic effort and doggedness to maintain sanity in the country, in spite of the persistent Boko Haram attacks.
The activist called on the Minister of Police Affairs and the Minister of Defence to renew strategy in the ongoing operation to rescue the abducted Chibok School girls.
Ekamon also stressed the need for INEC to ensure timely distribution of Permanent Voter’s Card to the people of Osun to avoid disenfranchising the electorate.
He noted that it was imperative for the commission to provide a level playing ground to all political parties and contestants with a view to ensure credible and transparent election.
He advised the people of Osun to remain resolute in the course of exercising their fundamental human rights and urged politicians to play according to the rules of the game.
