Osun poll: PDP expresses optimism

13 May 2014, 21:14

Osogbo-  The PDP in Osun on Monday expressed optimism that it would win the governorship election slated for Aug. 9 in Osun.

Diran Odeyemi, PDP’s Director of Media and Strategy in Osun, stated this in a statement made available to news men in Osogbo.

Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos, had earlier at a dinner in Lagos reportedly said that the PDP could only win election by rigging.

The Ekiti and Osun governorship elections are expected to hold on June 21 and August 9 respectively as scheduled by INEC.

“Ordinarily, we wouldn't have joined issues with Tinubu  as we know well that the August 9 gubernatorial election will vindicate the PDP, but we have to react to put the issues in proper perspective.

“We want to let every discerning Nigerian,  particularly Osun indigenes,  know that Tinubu is only jittery because of the defeat starring Governor Rauf Aregbesola in the face,” the statement said.

It advised politicians not to create  crisis with the allegation that the opposition was planning to rig the election, adding that  all stakeholders must  embrace peace.

“We appeal to parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards do not become willing tools in the hands of desperate politicians to perpetrate evil before, during and after the election,” it said.  (NAN)
