PDP: APC using finance to retain power in Rivers

05 August 2014, 11:08

Abuja - The People's Democratic Party (PDP) accused the All Progressives Congress-led Rivers State administration of relying on financial inducements to retain influence.

The ruling party alleged members of the State Executive Council and the present local government councils Caretaker Committee members were kept in position by the alleged huge monthly allocations, allowances and other motivational packages given to them by the governor.

"The PDP challenges Governor Rotimi Amaechi to dissolve his cabinet and see if all his commissioners will not abandon him," the party stated.

The PDP challenged Amaechi to discontinue the alleged various financial enticements which he and the APC leadership in the state had engaged in since his defection to the party "if the so called supporters will not abandon him and embrace the PDP."

The PDP cautioned the governor on the misappropriation of the SURE-P funds and state resources in maintaining the APC structures.

The party also urged its members and the people of the state not to be swayed by the "empty claims" and "last minute concerns" of the Governor.

Comment could not be readily obtained from APC.
