PDP National Auditor goes to court over removal

19 February 2013, 12:05

Abeokuta - The sacked National Auditor of the PDP, Mr Bode Mustapha, on Monday urged an Abeokuta High Court to stop the party from removing him.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Mustapha, former Gov. Segun Oni of Ekiti and some party stalwarts were sacked on Friday by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

The NWC cited some court judgments which nullified the emergence of Mustapha, Oni and some state executives, insisting that removing them was in the interest of the rule of law.

But Mustapha's counsel, Mr Gboyega Oyewole, prayed the court to stop the PDP from effecting his removal and replacement.

He argued that the office of the National Auditor General could only be filled through an election at a National Convention and not at the Zonal Congress of the party.

``The National Auditor or any member of the National Working Committee can only be elected at the National Convention and not Zonal Congresses like these people are trying to insinuate.

`` But now that they have purportedly removed our client, we are seeking redress in court,'' he said.

The presiding judge, Justice Abiodun Akinyemi, adjourned hearing on the application to Thursday.
