PDP abolishes automatic tickets to serving govs, lawmakers

04 November 2015, 18:12

Abuja - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it would no longer grant automatic ticket to its serving governors, senators and members of the House of Representatives, reports Daily Trust.

The move is part of the party’s repositioning process.

Uche Secondus, the Acting Chairman of the party, who disclosed on Tuesday shortly after the Country Director of International Republican Institute (IRI) paid him a visit, said automatic ticket is not provided for in the party’s Constitution.

He cited example of Kogi and Bayelsa states, where the two serving governors seeking re-election, Idris Wada and Seriake Dickson, faced the party primaries.

He noted that the party was also trying to eliminate the issue of money bags in the party.

While admitting that the party had gone wrong in the past, he stressed that under his watch, few individuals would not be allowed to fund and hijack the party.
