PDP appoints Mohammed Wakil National Vice Chairman

24 October 2012, 08:53

Abuja - The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP has approved the appointment of Alhaji Mohammed Wakil as the North-East National Vice Chairman of the party.

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Olisa Metuh, the party`s National Publicity Secretary on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to the statement, Wakil replaces Alhaji Girigiri Lawal, recently suspended by the party's leadership.

The statement directed elected party officials to comply with the provisions of the party's constitution with regards to the submission of candidates’ names for election into public offices.

PDP alsourge the governors, zonal officers, state chairmen and secretaries to comply with section 50 of the party's amended 2012 constitution.

It referred those concerned to its circular of Oct.18, 2012 signed by its National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and directed party officials to comply with its contents.

PDP said that Section 50 (1) of its 2012 constitution as amended, vested the power for formulation of guidelines and regulations for nomination of candidates for election into public office, at all levels, on the National Headquarters.

It added that both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court had authenticated and reaffirmed the provisions of the party's constitution through judgments.

”The National Headquarters of the party has the sole authority and responsibility of conveying the names of PDP candidates for all elections to the appropriate electoral bodies,’’ the statement stressed.
