Lagos - The Lagos State Chapter of the PDP on Sunday congratulated Gov. Babatunde Fashola on his 50th birthday celebration.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Fashola clocked 50 years on June 28, 2013.
In a statement signed by Mr Taofik Gani, the Publicity Secretary of the Lagos State PDP, the party prayed that the Lord would bless the governor with more years on earth.
"We particularly commend the appropriate decision of the governor to have a low-key birthday celebration.
"It was an expedient decision to make, in view of the situation and the level of suffering in the state.
"While we congratulate the governor, on his low-key 50th birthday, we advise other leaders in the country to emulate our gesture,’’ the PDP said.
The party urged the governor to, however, use the time left in his tenure to give to Lagosians the Lagos of their dreams.
"We urge the governor to particularly improve on Housing for the Masses; Road Construction and Rehabilitation; School Fees at the Lagos State University (LASU); and Healthcare Services.
"He should also tackle human rights violations by LASTMA and KAI officials and provide alternative opportunities for Okada riders and marketers who have been displaced from their sources of income,’’ the party said.
The PDP also appealed to the governor to order the release of arrested street hawkers in the state, most of whom are underage.
"This group of people who are languishing in cells and prisons in the state can be released, to sin no more,’’ it added.
