PDP congratulates Oshiomhole

16 July 2012, 09:22

Edo - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday congratulated Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo on his re-election and called on its supporters to accept the result as declared by INEC.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja and signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Olisa Metuh.

``This is, however, without prejudice to our right to seek redress if we observe from our field reports any foul play.

``We, therefore, urge our supporters to remain calm, law abiding and resist any temptation to take the law into their hands.’’

The statement said the party was still awaiting comments from its election monitors in the state on the result declared by INEC, before taking its final decision on the matter.

"The PDP has received with mixed feelings the results of the Edo State gubernatorial election in which the candidate of the ACN Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has been declared winner.

``While we await the reports of our monitors in different locations in the state in order to determine our next course of action, we commend the people of Edo for their enthusiastic participation in the exercise,’’ it said.

According to the result of the election announced by INEC, Oshiomhole polled 477,478 votes to beat Charles Airhiavbere of the PDP, who polled 144,235 votes.
