PDP criticises opposition for politicising critical issues

04 April 2014, 10:49

Abuja - The Zonal and State Publicity Secretaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have criticised the opposition for politicising critical issues that affect Nigerians and the future of the nation.

This is contained in a communiqué issued on Thursday in Abuja, by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, at the end of a two-day retreat.

The statement said that the retreat was organised by the office of the PDP National Publicity Secretary in collaboration with the International Republican Institute (IRI) in Bayelsa.

The communiqué was signed by Prof. Rufai Alkali and Nwachukwu Ngige, the Chairman and Secretary of the Communiqué Committee, respectively.

The communiqué frowned at the refusal of the All Peoples’ Congress (APC) to participate in the ongoing national conference, in spite of the awareness created by the leadership of the country.

The secretaries commended the PDP National Chairman, Ahmadu Mu'azu on his emergence and applauded the firm steps taken by the party’s National Working Committee to reposition the party.

It recommended that publicity secretaries should be integrated into its cardinal organs for effective and authoritative anchoring of the publicity machinery of the party.

According to the communiqué, the party's publicity secretaries at different levels should be empowered and properly positioned for effective discharge of their responsibilities.

The communiqué said that Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa commended the party’s publicity arm for defending and improving the party's image in spite of series of distortion and deliberate misinformation by the opposition.

Dickson charged the publicity secretaries to endevour to project the achievements of the Federal Government which he said were grossly under-reported.

The communiqué also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for remaining focused in his commitment to transform the country in spite of unwarranted attacks and distractions from the opposition.

It also commended the president’s steadfastness to finding a lasting solution to the lingering insurgency in some parts of the country and his determination at ensuring a strong, united and peaceful Nigeria.

The communiqué also commended the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh for convening the retreat and the proactive manner he had been handling the publicity of the party.
