Lagos - The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has shrugged off reports some members had defected to rival parties in the Rivers State
It was reported earlier more than 90 of its members decamped in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State and were received by an All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator, Magnus Abe.
The Chairman of PDP in Rivers State, Felix Obuah, however dismissed such reports as "completely false and aimed at misleading the good people of the State."
"All members of the PDP in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the State are intact and not even a single member has decamped to the APC or any other political party," he said.
“Our units and wards membership records in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State bear no such name like Mr Chukwu Umeh, claimed to have led the decampees to APC," Obuah added.
Obuah claimed rather, in the last few weeks over 200 members of the APC in Oyigbo had decamped to the PDP.
The party, he said, was planning a reception ceremony for them.
He thus urged the general public to ignore the reports of PDP members in Oyigbo decamping into APC.
"The current game of the APC is to cajole people with money and lay claim to imaginary membership, having lost grip of the State, following the abysmal failure of Governor Rotimi Amaechi to deliver on his campaign promises and collapse of governance in the state," added Obuah.
