Abuja - The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has denied constituting a so-called Caretaker Committee to run the affairs of the party in Sokoto State.
“Our attention has been drawn to statements from certain quarters suggesting that the National Working Committee (NWC) has constituted a Caretaker Committee for the Sokoto State Chapter of our great party. This is completely false and intended to mislead our members and the general public,” PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, stated.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the National Working Committee (NWC) wishes to state categorically that it has not constituted any Caretaker Committee for the Sokoto State Chapter of the PDP.”
Metuh said the National Working Committee urged the party faithful in Sokoto State and the North West geo-political zone to disregard statements made by those purporting to be in the reported Caretaker Committee.
Sokoto has been the scene of defections in recent weeks.
It was reported earlier this week that the former governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, had defected from the All Progressives Congress to the ruling party. Aliyu Wamako crossed the floor the opposite direction.
