PDP elects new state exco in Adamawa

09 January 2013, 08:06 -

Yola - In spite of the lingering crisis in Adamawa PDP, the party’s Caretaker Committee on Tuesday conducted the state congress to elect the new state executive officers of the party.

The state congress started in the evening, following the vacation of an interim court injunction retraining the caretaker committee from conducting the congress last week. Twenty-nine executive officers of the party emerged through consensus and affirmation by the delegates.

Chief Joel Madaki, a former state chairman of the party, emerged the new state chairman of the party, while Alhaji Jingi Rufai emerged as the deputy chairman. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr A.T Shehu, Mr Eli Gamaliel, Madam Altine Inuwa amd Mr Emmanuel Samdu also also emerged as members of the new state executive committee of PDP.

The four officers were the Secretary, Financial Secretary, Women Leader and Vice-Chairman (Northern Zone) respectively. The new executives were sworn in immediately. Meanwhile, a group known as Adamawa Concerned Citizens has criticised the conduct of the congress, saying that it would further aggravate the lingering crisis within the party in the state.

The group’s Chairman, Alhaji Husseini Gambo, urged the Presidency to intervene in the party’s crisis in Adamawa. He alleged that some "disgruntled elements" were working against the interests of the party.

NAN recalls that late last year, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP dissolved the state executive committee of the party in Adamawa and appointed a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party.
