PDP governors meet over Wike's removal

26 October 2015, 18:50

Abuja - Following the nullification of the April 11 Rivers State governorship election and the removal of Gov. Nyesom Wike from office as governor of the state, governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the implications of the judgment to the survival of the former ruling party, reports NewsDay.

The meeting is scheduled to hold on Friday in Abuja.

The Rivers tribunal had on Saturday ordered Wike to vacate the governor’s seat and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh election in the state within 90 days.

The PDP governors are also expected to discuss the rerun of the governorship election in 18 local government areas in Akwa Ibom, another PDP state.

The two affected states are oil-rich and are considered to be critical to the funding of the party ahead of its plan to re-strategise for the 2019 elections.

Osaro Onaiwu, administrator of the PDP Governors’ Forum, confirmed the meeting of the PDP governors.

He said they would discuss the judgments and take a joint position on them.
