PDP holds ward congresses in Anambra

13 August 2013, 12:03

Anambra - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held its congresses in the 326 wards in Anambra on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a five-man committee headed by the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Udo Oku-chukwu, supervised the exercise.

Oku-Chukwu said the committee was instructed to ensure smooth congresses.

He said he would address the press after the congresses on August 13.

Three delegates are expected to emerge from each ward to prepare for August 24 primaries for gubernatorial election in the state on November 16.

The News Agency if Nigeria (NAN) reports that materials for the election were distributed to all officers at about 1p.m. and dispatched to various wards thereafter.

There was huge presence of security operatives in Awka where the materials were distributed to officers going to the various wards.

Ken Emeakayi and Ejike Oguebego had earlier laid claims to the party chairmanship in the state.

A statement by INEC‘s Public Relations Officer in the state, Frank Egbo, however, said the commission would only recognise Oguebego as the state chairman of the party.
