Abuja – The People’s Democratic Party will next week inaugurate two key committees whose leaders it has already appointed.
The National Working Committee (NWC), which on Wednesday sat for its 360th regular meeting in Abuja, resolved to inaugurate the party's National Finance Committee and National Disciplinary Committee next Thursday and Friday respectively.
Godswill Akpabia will chair the 20-member committee on finance while Ibrahim Shema will serve as the Deputy Chairman.
The party's Deputy National Financial Secretary as the Secretary of the Committee.
The NWC also approved the inauguration of National Disciplinary Committee with Alhaji Diko and Ebenezer Babatope appointed as Chairman and Deputy respectively.
Solomon Onwe would serve as the committee’s secretary.
Meanwhile following the meeting, the NWC said in line with the directive of the party’s President, Goodluck Jonathan, it could not provide an update on efforts to reconcile with a breakaway faction.
“There shall be no further comments on reconciliation with the estranged members of the party, pending the outcome of the re-scheduled reconciliation meeting,” the NWC stated.
The factionalism within the party culminated in a split that saw former Vice President Atiku Abubakar lead the formation of a splinter group. Efforts to reconcile the two factions ahead of the 2015 general election have not succeeded.
