PDP slams Ambode over move to appeal verdict on LG elections

26 October 2015, 16:22

Lagos - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has berated Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode for planning to appeal last Friday’s ruling of a state High Court which ordered the government to conduct local government elections in the state within the next 30 days, reports Daily Trust.

The party said the move had exposed the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration under Governor Ambode as violators of rule of law.

The PDP in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, noted that the government was afraid of conducting the elections because it knows that the APC will lose woefully at the polls.

The party urged Lagosians to stop dealing with the councils because they were not legally constituted.

Justice Abdulfatai Lawal of the Lagos High Court, Igbosere, had on Friday while delivering judgment in a suit brought before the court by the National Conscience Party (NCP) against the state and the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) ordered LASIEC to conduct local government elections in the state within 30 days.

Justice Lawal also held that the appointment of caretaker committees over the administration of local government councils in Lagos State was illegal and unconstitutional.
