Edo - The PDP in Edo on Thursday urged INEC to ensure fairness and transparency in conducting the July 14 governorship election.
This is contained in a statement issued in Benin by the party's Publicity Secretary, Mr Mathew Urhoghide.
``Edo PDP has watched as Gov. Adams Oshiomhole and Edo ACN repeatedly make all kinds of ridiculous demands on INEC to bend the rules of the forthcoming elections to their benefits.
``INEC has granted lots of their demands in the past.
``If the PDP joins issues with Edo ACN and makes its own demands, the July 14 elections may never hold,’’ it said.
The party urged INEC to exert its independence and authority under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by enlisting ad hoc staff it believed could achieve the utmost results during the elections.
It condemned the NLC's recent call on INEC that the NYSC members serving in Edo be used as ad hoc staff for the conduct of the July 14 polls and not federal civil servants.
The statement said that NLC should desist from any pronouncements capable of causing rancour in Edo.
