PDP uses consensus in Sokoto ward congresses

16 June 2014, 22:02

Sokoto - The Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) in Sokoto State on Saturday resorted to the use of dialogue during its congresses in the 244 wards.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) who monitored the exercise in parts of Wurno, Rabah, Sokoto North and Sokoto South local governments, learnt that the exercise was conducted peacefully.

The Organising Secretary of the party in the state, Abubakar Kantoma, said that the exercise was conducted hitch-free.

"We encouraged the use of consensus in over 90 per cent of the 244 wards in the 23 local governments of the state.

"So far so good and election was conducted in few areas where consensus could not be reached," Kantoma said.

He said the party was intact in the state, saying: "We are united and we are one family."

However, some members of the party in Wurno local govenrment had petitioned its state caretaker committee, alleging attempts by some party leaders to impose candidates on them.

The spokesman of the group, Kabiru Achida, who is also a member of the caretaker committtee of the party in Wurno local government, told newsmen in Achida on Saturday that they wanted justice to be done.

"Some members of the party in the area were earlier disenfranchised as they were not registered during the recent registration exercise," Achida, alleged.

He also said that the members were supporting the conduct of free and fair elections and not imposition.

The chairman of the caretaker committee of the Party in the state, Abdullahi Santali, debunked the allegations as baseless and unfounded.
