PDP wants roads fixed in the east

23 November 2012, 09:09 -

Enugu - The South East Zone of the PDP has called for the immediate repair of the federal roads in the area by the Federal Government.

The executive committee of the party in the zone, which met in Enugu, identified the major roads needing immediate attention as the Enugu-Onitsha road, Enugu-Port Harcourt Road and Enugu-Abakaliki road.

In a communiqué issued in Enugu on Thursday, the committee also demanded that the roads be handled by quality contractors.

It also called on the government to commence work on the second River Niger bridge in Onitsha to ease the traffic in the town.

The committee also said that it was working hard to achieve greater unity among the states in the zone.

It advised the party members to contribute toward the funding of the party at the zonal level to strengthen its activities.

It urged the various levels of the party to ensure regular statutory meetings in accordance with its constitution.

The committee said the zonal working committee of the party should go ahead and constitute or reconstitute its standing committees to assist in the effective administration of the party in the zone.

It commended the high level of participation and contribution of the people of the zone, and the efforts of the members of the National Assembly in the present constitution amendment.

It also restated its demand for the creation of additional states in the zone.

The committee commended the performance of the PDP governors in the zone and their programmes aimed at delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

It commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the determined execution of the transformation agenda.
