Anambra - National and state officials of the Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA) on Monday threw their weight behind the candidacy of Godwin Ezeemo in the November 16 governorship election in Anambra.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the officials demonstrated their support for Ezeemo during a rally in Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra.
Sam Nkire, the National Chairman of the party, led the team which included the state chairmen from Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia and Anambra.
Nkire said the flag bearer was “the most qualified candidate to liberate the state from underdevelopment”.
He said that Ezeemo was a candidate with potential and was God-fearing, adding that he ordinarily did not need to campaign if there was level playing ground in an election.
Nkire urged the people to go home and ensure Ezeemo’s victory at the poll.
"You should go home and vote en masse for Ezeemo, stay at the polling booths to protect your vote after voting,’’ he said.
Naomi Achibong, the National Women Leader of the party, urged female voters to give Ezeemo their votes, assuring them that the candidate would not disappoint them.
Patrick Okeoha, the Vice-Chairman (South-East), urged the electorate to give the party’s flag bearer their votes for him to use his wealth of experience garnered over years both at home and abroad to development the state.
Austine Udeh, the Chairman of the party in Enugu, said Anambra would benefit much if Ezeemo was elected as the governor of the state.
In his speech, Ezeemo said that the state needed a strong leader to effectively develop it.
He said his manifesto was anchored on five important areas with the acronym "SHAPE".
The governorship candidate said the manifesto centred on security, health, agriculture, power and education to improve governance and the welfare of the people.
"Give your votes and I will not fail you. Hold me responsible for proper accountability,’’ he urged the people.
