Abuja - The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, on Tuesday said the politics of extremism was responsible for the insurgency in the country.
Maku stressed the need for all political officeholders to unite in the fight against insurgency in the northern part of the country and shun playing politics with religion.
“We need to pull back extremism. There is too much religion in our politics and that is why we are having most of the problems we are faced with.”
“Religion in our politics is not about righteousness but it is all about competition for power and competition for resources.”
“Once you put religion into politics the way we have done in the north, it is only a matter of time before things will get out of control,” he said.
Maku advocated tolerance and preaching the gospel of peace as the only way to overcome terrorism in the country.
“It means returning our young people and even the old ones to the path of sanity, brotherhood and respect for human lives.”
