Reps chide INEC for not creating more constituencies

05 November 2015, 13:10

Abuja - The House of Representatives has chided the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to comply with the Constitution by creating more constituencies in a number of states, reports The Nation.

INEC, according to the lawmakers, has failed in streamlining the number of seats in state assemblies based on the number of seats in the House of Representatives.

The House, in a motion sponsored by Francis Charles Uduyok (PDP, Akwa Ibom), called on the electoral commission to urgently commence the creation of additional state constituencies in the affected states.

In passing the motion, the House equally enjoined all relevant government agencies to cooperate towards ensuring the creation of the additional constituencies in all the affected states of the country.

The motion was referred to the Committee on Electoral matters for further action by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, after it was unanimously adopted in a voice vote.
