Lagos - The war-of-words between the rival parties in the Rivers State has continued with the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissing claims by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) the former was behind police’s takeover of Local Government Secretariats in the state.
Rivers APC Chairman, Dr Davies Ikanya, said the accusation was “watery, baseless and without foundation.”
“APC as a party has nothing to do with the Police taking over the LG Secretariats in Rivers State. We are not a lawless party like PDP that used the Police and other security organs to make the State virtually ungovernable during their time in power at the centre,” he charged.
Ikanya claimed APC had always been known as a party that respected and advocated strict adherence to the rule of law, saying there was no way it would renege.

“The memory of how the lawless PDP-led Federal Government under the watch of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan used the Police to harass, intimidate and hound then-Governor Rotimi Amaechi and APC leaders in Rivers State remains ever fresh,” he alleged.
“PDP leaders in the State clapped and danced when their leader, Nyesom Wike, murdered the rule of law through the infamous CP (Commissioner of Police) Joseph Mbu,” Ikanya further charged.
Last Friday, PDP bemoaned the sealing of the local council premises in Rivers State after the courts nullified the results of the local government elections held recently.
The party said this was “yet another clear indication the Nigerian police might have become a partisan and compromised instruments in the hands of the APC federal government to destabilize PDP controlled states, particularly Rivers State.”
