Abuja - The Nigerian Police have detained Rivers State lawmaker, Chidi Lloyd, over a brutal assault carried out on a colleague, Michael Chinda, Punch reports.
Lloyd was detained by the police when he showed up at their headquarters at about 5p.m. A source at the Rivers State Government House said Lloyd made a statement to the police and was told to return tomorrow for further interrogation.
The lawmaker is under investigation for the July 9 fracas allegedly induced by President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience, during which he attacked Chinda with a wooden mace.
Lloyd claims that his attack against Chinda was due to provocations by Evan Bipi, the lawmaker who led a group of lawmakers to invade the House of Assembly to attack him and his colleagues.
