Security gears up for Osun election

07 August 2014, 09:10Augustine Osayande

Abuja - The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Suleiman Abba, has assured the people of adequate security that would guarantee a level playing field for all parties involved in the upcoming Osun State governorship poll.

He said the police and other security and law enforcement agencies will combine forces to ensure that the law-abiding citizens of Osun State felt free and safe to cast their votes without any form of intimidation or harassment on Saturday.

The police leader warned against actions that might amount to electoral offences and advised political thugs and other mischief makers to steer clear of Osun as the security personnel would ensure strict compliance with the Electoral Act and other relevant statutes.

Abba also warned politicians and Very Important Personalities (VIPs) to restrict their movement as the use of siren would not be allowed.

Meanwhile, the police have commenced extensive security operations in the state.
