Seven lawmakers battle to replace Ikuforiji

Lagos - Serious politicking is currently going on in the Lagos State House of Assembly over who replaces the incumbent Speaker of the Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, reports PM News.

At least seven members of the House have signified their intentions to succeed Ikuforiji whose tenure as the longest serving Speaker in the country would end in 2015 .

Ikuforiji has signified his intention to go for the governorship seat of the state paving the way for a new Speaker to emerge in the coming 8th Assembly.

The members of the House that have signified their desires to replace Ikuforiji included the House's Deputy Speaker, Taiwo Kolawole; the Leader of the House, Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye; the Chief Whip of the House, Abdulrazak Balogun and the Deputy Chief Whip, Rotimi Abiru.

Other are the Chairman, House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, Mudashiru Obasa; the House Chairman for the Committee on Health, Suru Avoseh; and former Deputy Speaker and most experienced female lawmaker in Lagos State history, Adefunmilayo Tejuoso, Mushin State Constituency 1.
