Sokoto PDP governorship candidates meeting ends in deadlock

22 October 2014, 18:28

Sokoto - A reconciliatory meeting convened by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to work out consensus arrangement between the four leading aspirants jostling to win the party’s ticket in the 2015 governorship election in Sokoto State has ended in a deadlock, reports The Sun.

The meeting, which was chaired by Tony Anenih, PDP Board of Trustee Chairman, could not make any headway as none of the aspirants was ready to shift ground.

Aneneh intervention came after  attempts by the leadership of the party in the state failed to resolve the concensus crisis.

The aspirants include the state Deputy Governor, Mukhtari Shagari, a former Minister of Sports, Yusuf Suleiman, Nigerian Ambassador to Morocco, Abdallah Wali and a former Senator, Abubakar Gada.

The meeting was convened to among other things discuss and pacify some the aspirants to step down for one another and work together with unity of purpose ahead of 2015.
