Abuja -Dramatic scenes reigned in Taraba State on Monday after lawmakers impeached the entire leadership of the House of Assembly.
Led by the speaker of the Assembly Istifanus, Haruna Gbana the leadership was impeached over allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office and misappropriation of allowances meant for members of the House.
Haruna Tsokwa, the new Speaker of the Assembly, said the lawmakers were ‘fed up’ with the leaders of the House and were no longer satisfied with the quality of the leadership of Gbana.
He alleged the level of corruption had turned the state lawmakers to ‘errand boys’ to the executive arm of the state government.
Tsokwa said the new set of principal officers who took over will promote an open door policy.
He said they will not drag development initiatives unlike their predecessors.
